INLAND REVENUE DEPARTMENT

The department has the following functions:

  1. Monitor regularly revenue collections/remittances of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
  2. Collate and analyze data on revenue collections/remittances by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
  3. Demand and obtain relevant information on revenue collections /remittances from the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF), Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and other relevant Agencies in respect of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
  4. Create, maintain and up-date a comprehensive data bank for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in respect of revenue collections/remittances into the Federation Account.
  5. Monitor FIRS Stamp Duty collections
  6. Evaluate revenue generation trends in order to block the revenue leakages accruing to the Federation Account.
  7. Represent the Commission at the following meetings
    • monthly meetings of the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF), Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and other relevant Agencies.
    • Joint Tax Board (JTB);
    • Technical Sub-Committee of CBN, Lagos in respect of revenue collections/remittances by Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS);
    • Presidential Revenue Monitoring Committee meetings in respect of revenue collections/remittances by Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); and
    • Inter-Ministerial Committee meetings on Reconciliation and Monitoring in respect of revenue collections/remittances by Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS);
  8. In conjunctiuon with the State Offices Department Liaise with Zonal/State Offices quarterly for effective reconciliation of the revenue from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
  9. Organize training programs/needs for the staff of the Department in conjunction with the Administration and Human Resources Department.
  10. Prepare Departmental annual report and submission of same to the Planning, Research and Statistics Department on or before end of first quarter of the following year.
  11. Provide administrative, technical and professional support to the Inland Revenue Monitoring Committee (IRMC).
  12. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Chairman or the Commission.
